With so much music and entertainment to look forward to throughout the year, 2016 will be hitting all the right notes. From the 27th of February till the 9th of March, the Inverness Music Festival will be putting the spotlight on Inverness’ musical talent. Open to all ages and abilities, it’s the perfect opportunity to stay in touch and in tune with Inverness’ rising stars at the follow up Highlights Concert on the 11th of June.
When it comes to what’s on in Inverness, there’s one event that stands head and shoulders above the others. Founded in 1822, the annual Inverness Highland Games is one of the most spectacular traditional gatherings in all of Scotland. Set in the west end of Inverness at Bught Park, the 2016 Inverness Highland Games will host an action packed programme of field and track events, piping and dancing competitions, not to mention all your favourite “heavies” like tug-of-war, the hammer throw and tossing the caber.
Taking it up a score, the annual Northern Meeting Piping Competition in September will be bringing pipe dreams to life. Literally. Attracting the hottest piping talent from across the globe, the Northern Meeting Piping Competition is without a doubt the most prestigious piping competition in the world.
On the 9th till the 11th of September, one of the biggest events in the Highlands get’s underway. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the UK’s largest military fort, Fort George, the annual Highland Military Tattoo is the biggest annual Military Tattoo outside of Edinburgh. With a stunning display of pipe bands, military bands, traditional Highland dancers and youth choirs, this family-friendly event is a spectacular celebration of all things Scottish and a must on every “what’s on in Inverness in 2016” event calendar.
So there you have it. Just a sneak peak of what’s on in Inverness in 2016. Of course, we’ve only touched the tip of the Inverness events iceberg, but we reckon we’re off to a pretty good start.
