Achnagairn is ideally placed for golf buffs, with three championship courses within an hour of the estate including Castle Stuart and Royal Dornoch (both championship Links courses).
With phenomenal scenery acting as the backdrop to your game, there’s no reason why you should not be able to enjoy a game or two (or three!) during your time with us at Achnagairn Estate.
At around 45 miles from Inverness, Royal Dornoch Golf Course is easy to get to and a pleasant drive. The 18 holes are exciting for golfers prepared to tackle this famous Championship course, but if you’re more of a novice then why not head to the second course. The Struie is also eighteen holes but it’s great for families and players looking for something less challenging than the main course.
While you are spending time at Royal Dornoch there’s an interesting standing stone on the grounds known as ‘The Witch’s Stone’. It is engraved with the date 1722, although there is some speculation that the last witch condemned to death here was five years after this date. Still, it’s an interesting slice of history to enjoy when you’re avoiding a slice down the fairways.
The historic Castle Stuart Golf Course welcomes visitors to play its fabulous course. Booking tee times can be done online, making it simple to gain access to one of Scotland’s top golf courses. On their site you can enjoy everything from exquisite fine dining to an excellent bar menu that club members regularly enjoy. As well as every one of the fantastic eighteen holes, you’ll enjoy outstanding views across the Moray Firth to the Kessock Bridge and the ramparts of historic Fort George.
Located on the coast of the stunning Moray Firth, playing the Nairn Golf Course is outstanding, not only for its championship links quality, but also its beautiful scenery. Founded in 1899, the golf course has grown to achieve high acclaim and evokes great fondness in locals who frequent the course.
Skirting the Moray Coast for an initial seven holes, if the coastal winds don’t sweep you away in the moment, then the scenery is sure to. Recently voted as Scottish Golf Club of the Year (2015), the course is noted for offering luxury standards, without the championship price tag attached.
Having hosted notable events such as the Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup, the course is part of the Great Links Collection. Complete with lounge bar and panoramic views of the course and sea front, it’s all too easy to spend a day or two at the course! With amenities including a large car park, pro golf shop and locker rooms, you’ll have everything you need to indulge in a truly great round or two of golf.
