Scotland is a proud country with a proud history; we’ve covered the battles and bloodshed that have long since been and gone and the only thing left to do is pay respect to those that fought in them. The Gordon Highlanders are world-famous for their exploits, and hailed primarily from Aberdeen and the Northern parts of Scotland.

Sharing that legacy with the world is the Gordon Highlanders Museum. Based in Aberdeen, the former regimental headquarters of the regiment, the Museum explores the 113 years of history and warfare that the Highlanders took part in (between 1881 and 1994)

and holds the lauded honour of being the only 5-Star attraction in Aberdeen, courtesy of Visit Scotland.

The main display hall, named The Grant Room, features film footage taken during specific periods of time and full scale uniforms and weapon displays. Suitable for all ages with a keen interest in history, there’s a little something for everyone: from the scenic gardens behind the museum to the collection of silverware used by the regiment during their excursions.

More recently, the Highlanders Museum has opened up several new exhibitions – the full story of the Somme is related through the ‘Sacrifice at the Somme’ display and ‘The Great War Tapestry’ that shows the Highlanders regiment during World War 1.

Events are frequent and varied, ranging between drawing classes for adults to fundraising quizzes and the Museum has its very own café and gift-shop, selling
