Floor Plan (Ground Floor)
With its triple aspect view, the light pours into the drawing room from all sides. The heavy drapes of green complemented with swags and tails add a sense of grandeur to the room, as does the elaborate fireplace of marble and stucco, topped with an original miniature oil painting. Many of the plush armchairs, as well as the stunning chandelier have been acquired from the Savoy hotel in London.
This magnificent wood panelled room, with its two massive fireplaces at each end, harks back to an era of grand living. Through its ornate French window, guests can step out onto the patio leading to the front lawn and formal gardens. The room is a favourite for large gatherings. For corporate parties it is the perfect place to host initial drinks, while many brides choose it as the place to tie the knot.
Above the fireplace in this room hangs a huge canvas depicting mediaeval books to get you in the mood. There’s a writing desk, around the fireplace are armchairs originally from the Savoy hotel and a large selection of books for guests to enjoy during their stay.
The ballroom was built in 1911 for the 21st birthday party of the owner’s daughter and now hosts wedding ceremonies, family parties, charity balls or corporate conferences. It has retained its original splendour, from the massive fireplace topped with the family’s coat of arms to the oak panelled walls and the hand carved gargoyles in the vaulted ceilings.
